Support the “HERO ACT”
In a town like Fairhaven, we take pride in honoring service, sacrifice, and community. But at Town meeting, we’re faced with a simple question —are we truly living up to that promise?
The HERO Act gives us the opportunity — right here, at the local level — to do something meaningful for the men and women who gave so much for us. Especially our disabled veterans, who came home carrying burdens most of us will never fully understand.
These are our neighbors. They shop in our stores. They sit in our churches. They raised their families here. And many of them are now struggling to stay in the very homes they fought to protect.
This isn’t about politics. It’s about respect.
Adopting the HERO Act exemptions means easing the property tax burden on disabled veterans’ primary homes — the place where they should feel safest. It’s a small gesture compared to their sacrifice, but it’s one that says clearly: Fairhaven stands with you.
We can’t repay what they’ve given — but we can show gratitude in a real, tangible way.
Let’s do the right thing. Let’s adopt the HERO Act — for our veterans, for our values, and for the kind of town we believe Fairhaven should be.
Thank you.
