History’s Swindlers

January 14, 2026 by Staff Writer

Join Robert Ainsworth at the Mattapoisett Free Public Library, 7 Barstow St., on Sun., 1/18, at 2 PM to hear the story of history’s swindlers. From seagoing merchants in the Mediterranean to Charles Ponzi in the 1920s, to Bernie Madoff in the 1990s, and to bitcoin on the internet, people have wanted to get rich quick. They want easy money — the money others sweated to make and had the discipline to save. And they’ll stop at nothing to get it. No registration required. Accessible.

Food Drive

From now until the end of January, we are collecting donations for local food pantries in the form of non-perishable food, pet food, diapers, cleaning supplies, and items to support personal hygiene. Thank you to those who have already donated. Your generosity has made all the difference!
