More than 400 motorcycles joined the annual blessing of the bikes in Fairhaven on Sunday, 5/7, braving cold and windy weather at Fort Phoenix and the threat of rain. The weekend included just a few hours of respite from the wet weather, just enough time for the riders to gather at Fort Phoenix and participate in the ride.
From Ft. Phoenix riders went to St. Joseph’s on Spring Street in Fairhaven for a blessing by Fr. Bob Charlton and Fr. Stephen Banjare. Riders then went on a ride through back roads and returned to the Ice House in Fairhaven for food and entertainment by The Relics.
Before the ride took off from Ft. Phoenix, Chris Costa, David Norman and Eddie Roy said they were joining the ride and the blessing to, hopefully, have a safe year.
“Hopefully, it helps keep us vertical,” said Mr. Norman.
Falynn Faria, tags along with her father. They rode down from Taunton and planned to go to Providence after.
“I just like riding,” said Ms. Faria.
She said she will definitely have a motorcycle of her own when she grows up, and plans on it being a “pink, sparkly bike.”
She’ll be wearing a pink leather jacket to match it, too.
According to organizers, 412 bikes participated in the run. Proceeds from the even support St. Joseph School in Fairhaven.
