Hundreds enjoy Acushnet lighting, visits with Santa

The Acushnet Firefighters Association held its annual holiday lighting on Sunday, 12/7/25, at the Fire Station on Russell Street, at Parting Ways. The grounds and big tree are now lit up for all to enjoy, every night through the New Year.

The Ford Middle School Chorus led the crowd of several hundred in singing Christmas Carols until Santa and Mrs. Claus arrived in a fire truck. Everyone got the chance to talk with the big guy and have a picture taken. Everyone was also welcome to free hot chocolate and cookies.

This year, Daisy and Brownie Troop/ Acushnet sold Girl Scout cookies.

Also new this year, the organization, Christmas Wishes New Bedford & Surrounding Areas, was on hand. The group is sponsoring 139 families this year, giving gifts to a total of 300 children. They still had some families that needed “adoption” so they had their Christmas tree with information cards for people to take to be able to fill the wishes.

Organizer, Kevin Dean, said it was the eighth year he and his wife, Lori, have run the organization. He said they were involved in another group that stopped operating, so they decided to start their own.

The best part, he said, is that some of the families they helped in the past are now reaching out to help others.
