Something Smells Here
Please excuse my ignorance. I don’t really follow town politics all that much. However, recently my attention was drawn to a very well written letter about the now infamous Hiller/Timothy Development. Kudos to the 28 authors/signees.
The facts, as I know them, are very compelling. We have a development originally rejected by the Planning Board. The developer sues the town and every court throws it out. Denied again. The developer then re-applies, but now under a different name (an LLC), thus gaining sufficient anonymity and cover. Apparently, this developer doesn’t hear “no” very often.
So, now the new app just sits in a pile. And…. sits. And…. sits some more. No one is the wiser. Then thru some archaic state law if it sits for 155 days and goes unnoticed the app automatically gets approved. Why is this insane bylaw even on the books in the first place?
At this point “constructive approval’ kicks in due to inaction. It’s obvious most Planning Board members were not even aware of this re-application. However, there are a couple of town officials on the inside that knew something and looked the other way. They mysteriously remained silent. Why so shy? Is it off base to ask…. are they friends of the developer? Are they secretly on the land deed? Did they get paid off? Something just isn’t right here.
Right now it’s all conjecture and hyperbole. So, let’s investigate it. If this is, in fact, a corrupt development the two insiders and the developer himself should be brought up on charges. The Planning Board was left in the dark and the abutters did not get to voice their concerns prior to the start of this project and get a chance to block it.
Investigate and follow the money. It’ll shock you what you might find. Let’s unearth or “excavate’ the details. Ironic isn’t it? The developer owns “Fairhaven Excavation”. You can’t make this stuff up.
I’m all in favor of progress. But, if this turns out to be riddled with corruption then this development is all ill gotten gains. That’s not progress. That’s regress.
I’m not quite sure what smells worse? The waste water treatment plant near this development…. or the development itself?
