Boys & Girls Club of Greater New Bedford serves up the 27th Annual Steak & Burger Dinner, their popular fundraiser that connects Club members with Club supporters, on Monday, November 24, at 5:30 p.m. at Century House in Acushnet. This year’s event will feature keynote speaker/author Steve Pemberton and will honor New Bedford School Committee member Bruce Oliveira. To purchase tickets, from $50, visit www.bgcnewbedford.org/steak-burger-dinner.
The annual Steak & Burger Dinner fundraiser is a unique opportunity for corporate sponsors and community leaders to get acquainted with the Boys & Girls Club members who benefit from their generosity. The event is hosted by past Board member Celeste Paleologos and is generously sponsored by Bank 5, Mechanics Cooperative Bank and Southcoast Health.
Keynote Steve Pemberton is a bestselling author, philanthropist, acclaimed speaker, and a senior level executive for Monster.com, Walgreens Boots Alliance, and Workhuman. His story is about defying seemingly insurmountable odds to become a trail-blazing corporate executive, enlightened diversity leader, visionary youth advocate, and acclaimed speaker.
His best-selling memoir, A Chance in the World, recounts his triumphant life journey and drive to become a man of resilience, determination and vision. Now an upcoming major motion picture, A Chance in the World further amplifies Pemberton’s highly motivational messages: believe in your dreams, rise above obstacles, create opportunities for others, and most of all, persevere.
This year Bruce Oliveira will receive the esteemed Robert Chadwick Memorial Community Service Award for his contributions to improving the lives of young people and the region. Oliveira has been involved with New Bedford youth for more than 30 years, including several years on the New Bedford School Committee. He has also served as the President of the NBHS Gridiron Club, treasurer of the Friendly Sons of St Patrick, and district treasurer for GNB Regional Vocational Technical High School, among others. In 2019, while serving as New Bedford School Committee Vice Chair, Oliveira was named to Massachusetts All-State School Committee.
In addition to participating in the heartwarming event that supports youths who need it most, Steak & Burger Dinner attendees can also enter to win great prizes, which include tickets to a Celtics game, a dine-out package worth $200, sports memorabilia and more, all donated by local businesses and individuals.
