On October 3, Fairhaven High School welcomed students and staff from our sister city school, Shimizu High School in Tosashimizu, Japan.
The visit began in the Bernard F. Roderick Library at FHS, where members of the History Club and Ambassadors Club greeted the guests by waving Japanese and American flags.
Students from both schools spent time sitting together, exchanging gifts, and getting to know one another. Shimizu students received FHS gear, commemorative football tickets, American candy, and handwritten notes from the Local History class. After the library visit, the students explored Fairhaven High on a fun photo scavenger hunt before enjoying ice cream together.

That evening, the guests from Tosashimizu were honored at the Fairhaven High School football game. They enjoyed reserved seating, complimentary snacks from the PTO, and welcoming remarks from the stadium announcer, which were met with enthusiastic applause from fans.
The students then got to spend more time together learning about the culture of Tosashimizu at the Manjiro festival the following day.
FHS students are still abuzz about the visit, and a group of students is working on creating a permanent display in the school to celebrate and commemorate the sister city relationship. The day offered a meaningful opportunity for students from both schools to connect, communicate, and strengthen the ongoing friendship between Fairhaven and Tosashimizu.
