Who Wasted Our Money?
Critics say the Mattapoisett Special Town Meeting on October 4th is a “”waste of money.”
Let’s be clear: if it is a waste, it’s because of the supporters of the expansion of the select board from 3 to 5 members. They created this situation when they rushed their Home Rule petition through the Legislature on the very day our citizen petition was certified.
Had they respected the process, this meeting would be binding — exactly as the law intended.
Instead, their maneuver stripped away the force of our vote, while leaving taxpayers to foot the bill for the meeting.
So, let’s turn their argument on its head: the only way this meeting is wasted is if you don’t show up. A strong turnout and a resounding YES vote will prove that citizens, not political insiders, set the direction of Mattapoisett.
Saturday, October 4th, 1 PM, ORR High School Gymnasium — be there. Show them that democracy is never a waste.
