Dear Frankie

July 30, 2025 by Staff Writer

The Soaps

Dear Frankie,

I first started watching the soaps on TV at my doggie daycare. We had a choice of activities after lunch. We could either take a nap or watch TV. I tried napping a couple of times, but I’m not an afternoon napper. I never fell asleep, and I was bored to tears after twenty minutes.

After watching a couple of episodes of the soap opera, “Dogs on the Run,” I was hooked. I couldn’t wait to find out what would happen to Rex and Roseanne’s relationship after they were separated from their pack and were trying to survive in the wild.

My mom is a teacher and has the summer off. I don’t go to daycare when she is not working. My mom has a favorite soap opera that she faithfully watches every day. She is adamant she is not to be interrupted when it’s on, short of a life-threatening emergency. Unfortunately, her show is scheduled at the same time as mine.

I’ve asked her if we could take turns watching our shows, and she said, “You can’t be serious.”

Don’t you think she is being unfair?

Abagail

Dear Abigail,

It’s her house, and her rules. She could be more considerate of your interests and be more willing to compromise. However, don’t fret, your problem is easily solved. All she has to do is record your show. I thought everyone knew how to record a TV program.

If she doesn’t know how to record, ask a high school kid in your neighborhood to provide her with a tutorial. If she is old, be sure she practices it a couple of times when the kid is there, writes the instructions down, and tapes the paper to the back of the TV so she can refer to them if she forgets the steps in recording a show.

That’s what my mom does to prevent hours of looking for the paper where she wrote the instructions, and swearing.

Best, Frankie
