Leona (Aguiar) Souza 98, of Fairhaven, passed away at Alden Court Nursing & Rehab on Monday, July 7, 2025.
She was the daughter of the late Manuel Aguiar and the late Evangeline (Arruda) Aguiar and loving wife to the late George Souza.
Leona was the time owner and original founder of Leona’s Variety Store in Fairhaven. Upon closing the store she worked for a short time at Knapp Shoe and Cornell Dublier. She enjoyed spending her time playing bingo.
Leona is survived by many nieces, nephews, great nieces, nephews and cousins. She is preceded in death by her sisters; Margaret Williams, Diamond Sylvia, Beatrice Aguiar, Mary Aguiar, Irene Aguiar; brothers, Antone Aguiar, John Aguiar, Alfred Aguiar, Manuel Aguiar, Jose Aguiar, and Frank Aguiar.
Services were held on Tuesday, July 15. Burial was at Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne, MA. Arrangements were by Boulevard Funeral Home in New Bedford, MA.
