AIYIYI! I forgot to list the Duck Race last week (see page 6). Sorry about that. The craziest annual event I cover around here. But lots of fun, and people have a chance to win a pretty hefty pot of money.
We have some meeting coverage for you. The Select Board had to listen to a whole lot of bullshit this week. Geesh. People just cannot take no for an answer. Give it up, people. There are lots of reasons why the board can choose a person to be on a committee or board. Just because a person has been on a board does not mean they have the right be on that board forever. Just because a person has been on a couple of boards does not mean they get to be on any and all boards they want to be on forever. The Select Board is the appointing authority, and they have the right to choose to go in another direction from where the board has been for 18 years.
As for the sexism charge…really? There is no more strident feminist in these parts than little ole me, I assure you. The question Ms. Mello asked of Ms. Melanson was entirely appropriate. It was Ms. Melanson who said she was looking forward to her time with her grandchildren. Why is it off limits to ask her what changed?
All of a sudden, everyone’s a defender of women’s rights. What a joke. You guys don’t recognize sexism when it comes out of your own mouths every other day, but you can spot it in Ms. Mello?
The hypocrisy is astounding, just astounding.
Same goes for the social media policy.
But it’s getting late and I want to say a little something about what is happening in Los Angeles, where the people decided to stand up for their neighbors.
They are not saying “get ‘em out,” or toss ‘em in jail, or brutalize them. They are saying that immigrants are part of the community and have a right to be there.
The Big Buffoon has gone full dictator on us and half of this country is cheering him on. It is wrong to send the military in to engage with protesters, even if those protesters are being assholes.
He is sending the most lethal, elite, efficient fighting force on earth, our US Marines, to battle civilians who are throwing rocks. And you all think that’s a good thing? If any other country did that, we’d be sanctioning them. WTF happened in this country?
First of all, LA was not on fire. A few blocks of unrest in a city of four million. The governor and the mayor did not ask for help. Their police force was handling it.
But the Hitler wannabe just had to prove he can do whatever the hell he wants.
I’m so sick to my stomach seeing my friends and even relatives cheering this on.
Of course it’s wrong for protesters to attack police, just like it was wrong on January 6. But, well, that actual insurrection was in support of the Big Buffoon, so it gets excused, right? More hypocrisy.
The promise of America is gone. When the government can go into workplaces and nab people who are law abiding citizens; when they can go to court houses and nab people who are trying to follow the rules to get their citizenship; when they can stop anyone on the street and demand that they prove they are citizens, we have lost the promise of America. The rule of law is gone. God bless the people of LA for standing up for their neighbors. Congress sure as hell won’t.
Oh, and explain to me again how they’re all freeloaders but ICE has to go to workplaces to find them. Right, you can’t.
Until next week then, see ya
