New Bedford Fishing Heritage Center (FHC) and New Bedford Whaling National Historical Park are pleased to announce a free film screening as part of the Dock-u-mentary series at the National Park auditorium, 33 William Street, New Bedford. Dock-u-mentaries is a free film series hosted on every third Friday at 7:00pm from October through April.
On March 21, FHC will be screening the 2019 film Seadrift. In 1979, a Vietnamese refugee shot and killed a white crab fisherman at the public town docks in Seadrift, Texas. What began as a dispute over fishing territory erupted into violence and ignited a maelstrom of boat burnings, KKK intimidation, and other hostilities against Vietnamese refugees along the Gulf Coast. Set during the early days of Vietnamese arrival in the U.S., Seadrift is a feature documentary that examines the circumstances that led up to the shooting and its dramatic aftermath, and reveals the unexpected consequences that continue to reverberate today.
