Scores of people showed up at the corners Huttleston Avenue (Route 6) and Main/Middle Streets on Presidents Day, 2/17/25, for a national day of protest. The 50501 Movement called for the action, it stands for: 50 protests. 50 states. 1 movement.
All 50 states held protests in state capitals and other cities to protest President Donald Trump’s recent executive orders and his selection of Elon Musk, the world’s richest man and recipient of billions in government contracts, to slash budgets in agencies across the federal government. The administration has fired thousands of government workers and has deported people to countries other than their home countries.
According the website (https://www.fiftyfifty.one) more than 80 peaceful protests took place in all 50 states.
The protests are “showing the world that the American working class will not sit idly by as plutocrats rip apart their democratic institutions and civil liberties while undermining the rule of law,” reads the website.
