Press Release
On Dec. 12, 2024 Our very first Unit of “Hospital Caring Clowns” graduated from The Smile Factory Clown School and immediately began their “volunteer to cheer” campaign in our three local hospitals: Charleton in Fall River, St. Luke’s in New Bedford, and Tobey in Wareham.
Our graduates hail from our very own Fairhaven and surrounding towns. They have all developed their own clown names and personas, taken safety and hygiene classes, storytelling, puppetry, make-up, working with a partner and pocket magic classes.
Our new class takes place at 88 Hatch Street Suite #213 in New Bedford, MA beginning January 9th with only two spots remaining. If you would like to join in on the fun, call or text Elaine Vercellone, Director, 201-388-0225. or E-Mail thesmile factoryclowns@gmail.com. Classes are one night a week for 10 weeks and are $20.00 per class. One or two classes will take place at St. Luke’s Hospital with a walk-around tour.
It takes a special person to be willing to learn as much as possible to be the best “Hospital Caring Clown” and bring happiness and caring to people of all ages in the hospitals. Volunteer time required is a three-hour visit every other week with a partner. You must take this class to become a Hospital Caring Clown for Southcoast Hospitals. Our graduates will carry the official name of “The Southcoast Funny Bones.”
