Santa came to town to celebrate the lighting of Benoit Square in Fairhaven and listen to the wishes of children on Friday, 12/6/24. The cold and wind did not stop a couple of hundred hardy souls from gathering on the square to sing songs and then visit with the Big Guy under the gazebo. The free hot chocolate helped, to be sure, but….brrrr…it was still cold.
After Santa arrived on the antique fire truck, he explained that he always has three keys on him. One is the magic key that lets him into houses that do not have fireplaces. One is to the elves’ workshop because if he doesn’t lock it up and get them out of there, they’ll make toys all night long and keep him awake. And one is to Mrs. Claus’s cookie cabinet. One time te elves got in and ate all the cookies and they all got bellyaches.
Santa hung around for every little boy and girl (and their adults) to tell hm their Christmas wishes.
The square is at the intersection of Main Street and Howland Road in Fairhaven. The lights will be on nightly until the end of the year.
