People are asking me how I feel after the election. Mostly, I just feel sad.
I feel sad for our country; sad for the young women who woke up realizing no one cares about them and their most fundamental rights; even sadder for the women who voted for him, putting other priorities before their own so-very-basic rights.
And I feel sad for immigrants who will be brutalized with the full force and power of the United States of America with millions of U.S. citizens cheering on the cruelty.
And I feel sad for the young people who have never known a normal election with normal policy debates and normal candidates and normal patriotism and normal caring about our great nation.
The pundits will debrief and try to figure out “what happened.” I’ll let them do that; they can dissect the race, piece by piece.
It helps to have young people looking to us old timers for guidance. We can’t just hide under the bed. This is our country, too, whether the other side likes it or not, or tries to crush us. We belong here, too. So, stop telling me to go to another country. It’s not funny, and it just shows how unserious you are. Besides, it’s your side that thinks we are some kind of dystopian rat-hole, not me. I love this country. I love my life.
This country has been through worse than DJT. But the only reason we survived, is because good people continued to stand up and resist.
Hence, we must resist. Not the stupid kind that resists just for the sake of resistance, but principled resistance. We must resist the slide towards fascism. And we can’t ignore the assault on our environment and civil service workers, either.
I guess those of you who voted for him don’t believe any of that. But, no matter. The truth is the truth.
We will resist in every way we can. And we will look to the midterms. That is where the next fight is.
This was a moment when we could have taught the girls of America that they can be anything, even president. Instead we taught boys that they can do anything they want to girls and there will be no consequences. We taught girls that they do not matter. Whatever girls want, aspire to, or wish to achieve can be ripped away by a man at any moment, and no one will help: not doctors, not lawyers, not the government of the so-called land of the free, because that freedom is only for men. That’s what we told them with this election. It will be a long time climbing back. But, we will climb back. And we will be fiercer than ever.
As I was reminded by one of those pundits, there are some great leaders out there who simply have not emerged yet. They will have their skills honed in this next phase of the struggle. I look forward to meeting them.
Town Meeting is next week, time to vote on the 40R aricle. See page 3, page 14, and letters starting on page 22.
Until next week then, see ya,
Glory to Ukraine!
Glory to the Heroes!
