Both are politicians of the unfocused mind
Voting for President, like all politics, is based on morality. Michelle Costen (Oct. 31) may know this. We must know the good. We must choose to focus our mind, our rational soul, thru the senses, onto the concrete, material universe, onto reality. She does not know this. Her faith-based morality is a disaster for man’s life. Faith accepts ideas from the unfocused mind. Farmers with unfocused minds can’t grow a stalk of wheat. Doctors can’t cure disease. Mechanics can’t fix your car. Bartenders can’t mix a highball. Steve Jobs couldn’t have created Apple. Jefferson couldn’t have written the Declaration Of Independence, with its right to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.
IF man desires to live in concrete reality, he SHOULD use his free will to focus his mind. Man needs a morality from and for the focused mind. There is nothing in the mind unless man puts it there with his daily choices of focus and evasion. There are no innate ideas, an absurdity of claiming that man knows reality before he knows reality. There is no Original Sin. Despite millenia of mystics, man is not born with the desire to destroy himself and others. There is, however, originated sin.
The unfocused mind of mystics and subjectivists produced only failure, misery, virtual insanity and temporary relief for 300,000 years. Then our Scientific-Industrial-Capitalist civilization showed the glory and practicality of the focused mind. Before that, mortality was in the low 20s, every day was on the edge of starvation, and man drank, cooked, bathed, urinated, and defecated in the same water. With animals. Indoor cooking and heating with wood and dung(!) caused respiratory and eye diseases. There was virtually no medicine or sanitation. There were no iPhones, no pizza delivery.
Nobody knew the politics of individual rights, the product of the focused mind and the American Revolution. War, brutality, hopeless poverty and misery were accepted as man’s fate in life. The unfocused mind had no power or motive to change this. Consider the new Axis: Russia, China, North Korea and Iran. Mystics all, whether of the supernatural or the nation. The individual is taught and forced to transcend himself to a fantasy of a greater good, to the unfocused mind, whether that’s called God or nation.
Man needs a radically new morality for his life and his happiness. He needs the basic moral values of reason, purpose and self-esteem. He needs the basic moral virtues of rationality, productiveness, independence, integrity, honesty, justice and pride. He also needs other moral values or virtues such as confidence, courage and trade (of material and spiritual values).
Harris and Trump are politicians of the unfocused mind, whatever their trivial differences. Harris wants government as impossible substitute for man’s focused mind. Trump wants himself, personally, as impossible substitute for man’s focused mind. A Harris Presidency would have been a slower change from fragile democracy (unlimited majority rule) to dictatorship. There may be time for a renaissance of the rational individualism which created America.
