Well, the American people have spoken. I am re-writing this as the printer is literally waiting for me to hit “upload.” I have the TV on in the background, and as I wrote about waiting for the final nail in the coffin of our democracy, it was announced.
Our country’s biggest threat to itself has been elected to the position best suited to destroying our democracy and turning us into a Banana Republic.
But, alas, the voters have spoken (see page 13).
Maybe I’ll opine further on the open-eyes vote for the demise of our democracy next week. But at this point, in the wee hours of the day as I hit the deadline wall, all I feel is heartbroken: heartbroken that women’s equality still does not matter; heartbroken that women’s lives do not matter; heartbroken that sexism is alive and thriving in America; hearbroken that such a nasty, hateful, self-centered, proven liar is being entrusted with our great nation; hearbroken that people care more about gas prices than each other.
In the races, it looks like our Fairhaven guy, Mark Sylvia, won Straus’s seat, and Elizabeth Warren will be going back to Washington on our behalf.
On another note, it’s Veterans Day on Monday, and both Fairhaven and New Bedford are holding parades. Acushnet is also having a parade, but on Saturday. See page 3 for that.
Speaking of veterans, the VFW in Fairhaven is closing its doors. See page 14 for that, and page 12 for a related story.
And a Hastings Middle School student won a regional art contest. How cool is that! See page 11 details.
There’s more in here, of course. As you look through, be sure to notice who our advertisers are so you can tell the you saw their ads in the Neighb News.
Until next week then, see ya,
Glory to Ukraine!
Glory to the Heroes!
