Beats Me
Dear Frankie,
My brother asked me if I wanted to listen to a few Halloween Ghost Stories. I said sure.
By the third story, I said I had to do my homework. I didn’t want him to think I was a wimp, but I found the stories terrifying.
The stories were about ghosts and goblins and witches who stole children they cooked in the oven and ate for dinner.
Since then, I haven’t been able to sleep, and the closer it gets to Halloween, the more nervous I become. I had planned on going trick-or-treating with my friends, but now I don’t want to take the chance of getting eaten up or kidnapped.
I asked my mom if I could skip Halloween this year. I was afraid she would ask me why, but she didn’t and said it was up to me. So, I got off the hook.
But now I’m worried about the dogs, who may not know what could happen to them on Halloween Night. Please warn them in your next column.
Slugger
Dear Slugger,
I’m glad you shared your thoughts on Halloween. You can’t be the only dog frightened by the holiday. So, I’m happy to set the record straight. Ghosts, goblins, and witches are not real. They are make-believe characters. You have no reason to be afraid. Stories about them are written to entertain.
Halloween is a time for children to have fun, dress up in costumes, participate in parades, and trick-or-treat. I suggest you tell your mom why you wanted to skip the holiday, so, she can assure you that you will be safe if you choose to celebrate the holiday.
If you do, who will you be? I was the cookie monster last year.
Best, Frankie
