Espindolas Support Sylvia
Mark Sylvia has always been passionate about Government. Over the years, Mark has utilized his education (a bachelor’s degree in political science and master’s degree in public administration from American University) working at several different levels in local and State Government.
As Town Manager in Plymouth, Mark helped the Town improve its Bond rating, negotiated an agreement for what was, at that time, the largest Payment in Lieu of Taxes agreement for a nuclear power plant in the U.S. He also helped the Town understand the benefit and long term financial impact of major capital projects for new schools and a Senior Center that were approved by Town Meeting members.
Mark’s experience as Town Moderator for many years and his experience in serving on the School Committee in Fairhaven have helped him understand the inner workings of local Government and the very substantial reliance local communities have on State Aid.
At the State level, Mark served as Commissioner of Energy Resources and Energy Undersecretary. Mark’s blend of local and State Government experience coupled with years of Senior Management experience in the private sector (growing and expanding his company) yield a resume built for the position of serving as our State Representative.
Mark has also demonstrated his leadership qualities in both the government and private sectors. An effective State Legislator needs to be a good leader. They need to know how to form relationships with other legislators. This is critically important in order to secure co-sponsors for legislation that is important to their own district. This also means supporting initiatives of other legislators. This back and forth requires trust building. Anyone who knows Mark personally will tell you that he has the qualities required to deal diplomatically with people, knows how to build professional relationships and knows how to get things done. They will also tell you he is a great listener, and is very open and transparent.
An effective State Representative will take on leadership roles. Mark has demonstrated his leadership in many professional settings throughout his career and he has the energy and drive to take on leadership positions as our State Representative.
Aside from the issues we are facing in the areas of housing and healthcare costs, there are important transportation, economic development and environmental issues facing our region that will require state and federal funding, serious relationship building and advocacy. We need our State Representative to see the Fairhaven-New Bedford Bridge replacement through final design and then through construction. The sewage outflow problems in the Harbor will also require creative solutions and very significant sums of state and federal funds. We need to have an experienced voice speaking for us with such daunting tasks ahead and Mark Sylvia is the right person for the job.
The impact a State Representative can have in advocating for their local communities is huge. Mark Sylvia’s experience and demonstrated leadership place him in a position to hit the ground running on day one.
Our vote is for Mark Sylvia, State Representative.
