Dear Frankie

October 9, 2024 by Staff Writer

Three’s a Crowd

Dear Frankie,

When my friend Tracey moved away, I thought I would never see her again. Earlier this year, she and her mom started coming to town for four days every couple of weeks to care for her grandma.

Whenever Tracey was in town, I invited her to play at my house for as many days as she had time. I know she has other friends in town she wants to see, so I didn’t expect her to spend all of her time with me. Tracey likes coming to my house and visited several times on each trip.

The problem is she always asked if she could bring a friend. I didn’t mind most of the time, but I did want to spend time just the two of us.

When I talked to Tracey about some one-on-one time, she said she would love to, but there was only so much time she had to socialize, and she didn’t want to hurt her other friends’ feelings.

I don’t know what else I can say.

Nest

Dear Nest,

Interesting name, by the way. You could propose to Tracey that she invite several friends to play at your house one day a week, see you one day alone, and see her friends at whatever location they decide to meet the other days.

Instead of seeing one another every time she visits town, you could suggest the two of you get together one-on-one when she can make time during some of her visits to town.

If she can’t do this, it’s up to you to decide how important it is to see her alone. If it’s a deal breaker, then you always have the option to end the friendship.

Best, Frankie
