This past Saturday, 9/14/24, a huge environmental positive difference was accomplished for the New Bedford Inner Harbor.

Eighty hard working volunteers cleaned up 39 bags containing 1,370 pounds of trash off of Historic Palmer Island and surrounding walkways. In addition to the usual plastics, a lot of wood and other debris were cleaned. This is the most volunteers we have ever had for one cleanup of Palmer Island! We filled up two city trucks with trash.

A special thank you to so many: Southcoast Hospitals Group with their many giveaways, Nautical Whalers Parrot Head Club, FBinsure, Jan De Nul, New Bedford Rotary Club, Vineyard Offshore, Bay Coast Bank, Weir Village Pest Control, and many individuals who wanted to make Palmer Island cleaner and greener.

Also thank you to our Event Sponsors: Keep Massachusetts Beautiful, Seaside Sustainability and Clean Coast Coalition, for their Demo of the Pixie Drone to “Educate our community about the dangers of litter and marine debris in our coastal environment. This was a huge event, which inspired the public to prevent debris from entering our waterways”

Great presentation by Eric Magers and his team on how we can have cleaner water with so much less debris.

Also thank you to our Corporate Sponsors Domino’s Pizza as they have sponsored us for 18 years. And to BASK for providing Coffee and Donuts for every cleanup, and to the City of New Bedford for providing two city trucks with Billy and Danny, and Peter the street sweeper. Also, Christina and Chancery for their City support.

And lastly to our Operation Clean Sweep team of Lorraine Sweeney, Lynn Amicucci, Lynn Coish, Jenna Silva, Sophie Wotton and first timer Connor Wotton.

It takes a huge effort to have an environmental cleanup, and Operation Clean Sweep is beyond grateful to everyone for their efforts, commitment, and hard work. It means so much to us!!!!

Together we will make a difference!!
