Acushnet held its annual car cruise, after a bit of hiatus, on Thursday, 8/29/24, in the Parting Ways Green in the center of town.
Hundreds of classic and antique vehicles filled the streets and parking lots for the public to check out and chat with the owners.
Music by DJ Dave Blast from the Past, featured all the favorite oldies. Local vendors sold food, and there was plenty of room for dancing.
The event was sponsored by the town of Acushnet.
Les Dakin showed his 1949 Willys Jeep Pickup that he only got a few months ago. He explained some of the work he has done, such as installing rack and pinion steering, and some of the work he still needs to do.
“So, it’s a work in progress,” said Mr. Dakin.
Matthew Leblanc was showing his “Rat Rod,” a vehicle that started out as a 1937 GMC pickup truck, and has been customized into something unique.
Fred Bonville’s 1953 Jaguar XK120 was definitely a draw of the crowd. He owned it for three years, he said, and had to pretty much put it together with so many parts needing replacement, all from England, of course.
The 5-speed 6 cylinder twin cam engine has about 200 HP.
