Growing up in North Fairhaven in the late 50’s and early 60’s has many memories. It would be difficult to list everything that made growing up in North Fairhaven special, so how about a few notes that will jog the memory banks.
Bailey’s Square…Oxford School… playing wall-ball on the Oxford School Gym wall…Livesley Park…Dean St. sledding…Riverside Cemetery…The Elephant Tree…Dana Farm….Ball St. to the Acushnet Line [No. Fairhaven]…Trippy’s [pinball]…North Fairhaven Sea Grille [bowling shuffle board]…Fairhaven Pioneer…Reagan’s Supermarket…Coffee Fizzes…Red and White Market…Keith Theater…The Casablanca…Firehouse Sub Station… Al’s Fish and Chips…Sacred Hearts Academy [all girl boarding school surrounded by an eight-foot iron fence]…Livesey Park basketball during the winter…Livesey Park tennis courts with a chain link fence for a “net” that was never used…Little Dana Pond…Labor Day Portuguese Feast [complete with the parade from St Mary’s Church to Bailey’s Square] …Roland Tire…Newbury’s TV…Al’s Package Store… Frank’s Dairy Bar… John’s Shoe repair…Duval’s Drugstore… The cannon on Bailey’s Square… Weber’s Barber Shop…Magnolia Ave…
