Oh, summer, where are you going? Slow down, please.
We went on a little excursion this week. I went to Plymouth, with a couple of friends, to check out their 40R district (see page 12). They have a big one.
Since we’re talking about a 40R here in Fairhaven, I thought I’d check out one that is considered a success. The difference, though, is that their Cordage Park is all in one place, a huge parcel that used to be home to a rope factory.
Our district will be spread out among neighborhoods that are already pretty much built out, except the plaza areas. Oh, yeah, I guess I mean the waterfront part, huh?
Anyway, take a look and see if that’s something we’d like here. Of course, ours would not have to look like that. It all depends on the language of the by-law. But, I think the consultants said that they pretty much just went by the state’s model by-law, so….
The public hearing on the 40R at the Planning Board meeting is on 8/7 in Town Hall at 6:30 p.m.
The NFIA had its annual music night this weekend (see page 7. It was a little on the hot side, but that did not stop the real dancers from getting out there in the street.
I parked behind the Oxford School Residences, where there are 30 free public parking spaces. There were only a handful of cars there. Everyone else spread out in the neighborhood. I saw a few people walking a longer distance to their cars than they would have if they had parked behind the building (although there is a pretty good hill). I think that a lot of people just do not know about these spaces. They could be marked a little better, but the sign clearly shows public spaces to the left.
So, keep that in mind when you go to Benoit Square. With that area getting more businesses, those spots will definitely help. You can run up to Main Street, grab some food, shop a little, maybe go to Livesey Park, all the while your car is parked off the street.
Sounds like a plan to me.
Until next week then, see ya,
Glory to Ukraine!
Glory to the Heroes!
