On Friday, February 9, the library’s elevator at the Walnut Street entrance will be temporarily unavailable due to essential maintenance. This maintenance is imperative to comply with the updated Massachusetts fire code, specifically addressing the emergency control operation of elevators. It is important to note that the current operation of the library’s elevator poses no immediate safety concerns. However, the replacement and modification of equipment are necessary to ensure the elevator functions correctly during fire service operation.
During this period, the library can still be accessed through the main entrance located at the front of the building on Center Street. Please be aware that one side of the main entrance stairs is closed due to the placement of scaffolding.
The elevator is anticipated to be out of service for the entire day. If you encounter difficulties accessing the library through the main entrance, kindly reach out to library staff for assistance at 508-992-5342. Your understanding and cooperation during this maintenance period are greatly appreciated.
