The Millicent Library book discussion group meet on Thurs., 1/19, at 10 a.m., to discuss 438 Days at Sea, An Extraordinary True Story of Survival at Sea, by Jonathan Franklin, at the Millicent Library, 45 Center St., Fairhaven. Accessible.
The author spent a year interviewing the survivor of a violent storm off of the coast of Mexico, a fisherman, Alvarenga, who devised ways to catch fish, turtles, birds and water. He repaired his tattered clothing with a fish fin fashioned into a needle, and survived longer at sea in a small boat than anyone previously recorded.
This book is available to borrow through SAILS, the inter-library site. Also check the Millicent Library web-site for further details. The discussion is free, open to the public, and lasts about an hour. For questions or directions, please call Norma Markey at 508-993-3745.
