Compost and smash, not trash pumpkins.
The Fairhaven Sustainability Committee is pleased to announce that this year community members can compost their pumpkins instead of throwing them in the trash. Starting on Saturday, November 4th residents can bring their pumpkins to one of the three community gardens for composting. The three gardens are at Wood, East and Hastings Middle School. Each garden will have a marked location for composting the pumpkins. Composting pumpkins not only helps reducing waste from the trash but also will create garden compost for our gardens next year.
If people are not able to bring their pumpkins to the community gardens, find a small spot in your yard and smash the pumpkin, next spring you may see a new plant growing in that spot, a complete pumpkin circle.
Please remove any candles or lights and do not include any pumpkins with glitter or paint. For any questions please contact Ann Richard at ann.richard@gmail.com
