Most people know that some types of animal traps are not allowed in Massachusetts. But even those that are allowed can have unintended consequences.
Last week, a raccoon got a rat trap stuck on its paw and had to be rescued by Fairhaven Animal Control Officer Terry Cripps.
“I never would have thought that I would be in a bucket truck 30 feet in the air when I started the shift this morning,” wrote Mr. Cripps on Facebook last Tuesday, 10/24/23.
He said a local tree service discovered the raccoon in a tree with the trap on its front paw.
“I was able to secure him on a pole and remove the trap from his paw,” wrote Mr. Cripps. “He was released back into the wild. He didn’t say thank you but I’m sure he appreciated it.”
