This year’s annual town auction to sell surplus property for Fairhaven only netted $118 on Saturday, 9/16/23. There were no vehicles, and nothing from the Police Department, which usually has at least a few bicycles, which always gets some interest.
Most items went for a few dollars, with only a bout 20 people in the public works garage bidding on items, which were mostly old furniture and useless office equipment. The bulk of the items had no bids at all, including 10 wooden chairs and some cushion chairs, and a few desks.
Select Board chairperson Leon Correy played auctioneer this year.
Young Jaxon Lussier, 11, and his father got a small water pump for $1. Young Mr. Lussier said he will clean it up and sell it on Facebook Marketplace. He said he thinks he can get $20 or $25 for it. Not a bad rate of return.
