Fairhaven’s own Grace Pacella, well known around town for her big smile, has been chosen to be an official team member of the UMass Dartmouth Women’s volleyball team. The two-year commitment was made possible by Team IMPACT, an organization that matches children facing serious illness and disability with college sports teams, creating a long-term, life-changing experience for everyone involved.
According to Gracie’s mom, Pattie, the process involved an application, parent interview and memorandum of understanding for the two-year commitment. Both the college and the family had to commit to Team IMPACT rules, not just to be team member with the college, but to inspire each other and create relationships.
“The young women, both spring volleyball and now as we are going into Fall volleyball, have welcomed Grace with open arms, getting to know her and her special abilities,” said Grace’s mom. “They are already in love with her infectious smile and we are happy to be a part of their family as well.”
