The Teddy Bear parade returned to the center of Fairhaven on Saturday, 8/19/23, after being last month postponed due to the heat. The day on Saturday was clear and warm, but not oppressively hot, giving the approximately 200 participants a pleasant walk around the Unitarian Church to Our Lady’s Haven, where a few residents watched the children and their adults go through the property with their teddy bears and other stuffed animals.
The annual event marks the end of the summer reading program, and was originally scheduled for 7/29, but the excessive heat caused the closing of the Millicent Library, which has no air conditioning. The Millicent sponsors the reading program and the parade.
The event included face painting, blowing bubbles, free snacks, and music by Dave Sterenchock on his guitar. Daisy D. Dots, our hometown clown, performed and led the parade along with the Millicent’s resident Teddy.
