Press Release

“Proud Tradition, Proud Future” became the Fairhaven High School motto in 2009 and now is the best way to describe the new approach to the Athletic Director role at Fairhaven High School. The Fairhaven Public Schools is proud to introduce Mr. Donald Joseph and Mr. John Ricciardi as the new Co-Athletic Directors for Fairhaven High School. The shift to a shared leadership role will help support the transition for the 2023-2024 school year and will also provide a better overall experience for our student-athletes. Mr. Joseph and Mr. Ricciardi both bring unique perspectives to the role.

Mr. Joseph exemplifies the proud traditions of athletics at Fairhaven High School. He is an alumnus (‘92) and has been a teacher and coach of football, basketball, and track and field at FHS for 22 years. He currently serves as a math teacher. The athletic director always serves as chair of the Fairhaven High School Hall of Fame Committee and this will be a natural fit for Mr. Joseph as he currently serves on the board and was inducted as a member of the FHS Hall of Fame for his athletic accomplishments as a student-athlete.

Mr. Ricciardi has been a social studies teacher and has coached boys’ lacrosse at Fairhaven High School for the past five years. A standout athlete in high school, he also played lacrosse at the collegiate level for Roger Williams University. He is focused on building a strong culture for all student-athletes and expanding student participation in both athletics and co-curricular opportunities. He embodies the district values of ambition, integrity, and perseverance.

This shared leadership model will provide a streamlined system for operations and will support improved experiences and access for student-athletes and families.

FHS Principal, Andy Kulak, as well as District Administration, is grateful for the willingness of these two men to be stepping up at this time, agreeing to split the AD role. Both Mr. Joseph and Mr. Ricciardi will be great additions to the leadership team and will continue to foster and expand the culture of Blue Devil Pride.z
