Approximately 300 people showed up in the center of Fairhaven with lawn chairs and blankets to listen to some free music in front of town hall by Truue on Thursday, 7/20.
The free Concerts Under the Stars series is sponsored by the Fairhaven Improvement Association (FIA) and features a different band every Thursday at 7 p.m.
The series ends on 8/10, so there are only three left.
Joyce Sykes, who was enjoying the music with three former classmates from the class of 1966, said it was “beautiful.”
“It’s like sitting in Europe,” said Ms. Sykes, pointing to the Millicent Library and Town Hall.
Her friends agreed, saying the architecture in Fairhaven Center made it special.
Sandra Doucette said England has nothing on Fairhaven.
“It’s not as pretty,” she said. “IT’s like a black and white movie.”
Sharon Dearing and Gary Alegre made their way to the center from New Bedford. They said they try to get to most of the concerts, the genre of music does not matter to them.
“It’s just to get out there,” said Mr. Alegre.
Children drew on the street with chalk, people danced in the street, and a few booths were set up, too, some with freebies, some with items for sale, including popcorn, water, and Fairhaven wear by the FIA.
Michelle Senna said she dances with her dog Penny every chance they get. And Thursday night was no exception. They danced in the street, with Penny in Ms. Senna’s arm, while the children played with chalk on the street, and other children played lawn games on the lawn of town hall.
There are three more concerts left. See page 5 for details.
