The so-called unofficial start to summer is here: Memorial Day.
Honestly, Memorial Day seems pretty official to me. Fairhaven will be holding its annual parade (see page 5), and I encourage everyone to go. Line the route, wave flags. If you live along the route, display a flag to show your support of those who served and are no longer with us.
The route ends at Riverside Cemetery for a short ceremony. The kids have the day off from school, so take them along. It will all be over before the morning is out, so you’ll still have plenty of time to enjoy the day off.
We have a bear! Really. Well, it wasn’t officially spotted in Fairhaven, but it was in Acushnet, New Bedford, and Mattapoisett. I’m guessing it at least skirted the perimeter of our little burg. See page 17 for details. He’s still out there, too, so be careful with pets. Black Bears can cover a lot of territory in a day, so be sure to believe your eyes if you think you spot him in Fairhaven.
The Huttleston Marketplace is open for the season! The weather seriously did not cooperate on Saturday for opening day, but a few troopers set up shop anyway and kept the show alive (really, there was a show). See page 12 for that.
We have some information on the Proposition 2 1/2 override vote coming up in just a couple of weeks. See page 3 for some of the information that the town has put on its website to make its case. See letters on page 23 for two people with reasons why you should not buy it.
Please, please, please, take the time to be informed before you go to vote.
Acushnet had its Town Meeting this week (see page 13), and they got lots done and had some fun moments. I DO love Town Meeting.
There’s other stuff in here of course. As you look through, please be sure to notice who our advertisers are so you can tell them you saw their ads in the Neighb News.
Until next week then…see ya,
Glory to Ukraine!
Glory to the Heroes!
