The annual West Island 5K saw 243 registered runners, with 179 finishing the race on Sunday, 3/23/23. In the Kids Mile Fun Run, 28 runners hit the streets on a cold and blustery day with threatening skies. The forecast was for downpours that could have started any minute. But the rain held off, and, for the most part, runners liked the the colder weather, although, 52 degrees with 21 MPH winds and stronger gusts, did pose challenges for some.
Rachel Schilkowsky, 31, of Providence, RI, was the first woman over the line, setting a course record for women at 17:18.
