The weather in March in New England, is, indeed, still full of surprises.
Parts of central and northern Mass. had already received snow measured in feet, not inches, while the SouthCoast was still largely seeing lots of rain by press time on Tuesday night. The town of Colrain, Mass. hit the jackpot with 36 inches at press time; Rowe got 35”, and Plainfield got 32.
Parts of the state had widespread power outages. The heavy, wet snow, with the high winds was just too much for the electrical lines, even snapping a tower. Fairhaven had received a little over 1 inch of rain by press time. Winds on Tuesday night into Wednesday were forecast to be 15 to 20 MPH with gusts up to 50 MPH. Rain was forecast to mix with snow in the region, but accumulations were still expected to be low, in the 1-3” range.
