The Rotch-Jones-Duff House & Garden Museum (RJD), 396 County St., NB, presents a hybrid lecture, Dr. Marie Equi’s New Bedford 1872-1892, with Aneshia Savino on Wed., 3/15, at 5:30 p.m. Savino’s talk will reveal the radical roots of physician and crusader Marie Equi’s fighting spirit. Before Equi became known for her labor and anti-war activism, and a life spent with and loving women, she grew up in New Bedford. This talk will explore the City during a time of transition when whaling fleets were shrinking and textile mills were on the rise.
Savino is a New Bedford High School graduate who earned her B.A. in Anthropology/Archaeology at the University of New Mexico, Albuquerque. She curates and installs the Marie Equi Zine Library and is a Community Board Member of the Queer Arts Council of New Bedford.
Attendees may join the live lecture in person at the Museum or virtually. The virtual presentation requires pre-registration at https://rjdmuseum.org/calendar/.
