On Sat., 2/4 the Millicent Library, 45 Center St., Fairhaven, will be having cake in celebration of the 130th anniversary of the Millicent Library and the 150th birthday of the library’s namesake, Millicent “Millie” Rogers. Millie was born on February 1, 1873, the daughter of Henry Huttleston Rogers and Abby Palmer Gifford. After Millie’s death at a young age in 1890, her family built a public library for the town of Fairhaven. Millicent Library opened on January 31, 1893 and the first books were checked out the next day.
Everyone is invited to attend and view the library’s new exhibit displaying photos of the library and Millie and other unique artifacts and ephemera of the library’s first year.
The Millicent Library is open on Saturday from 9:00-3:00.
