The Disabled Americans Veterans Dr. C.E. Bert Chapter 7, held its monthly meeting Saturday, swearing in some new members, making plans for their annual Christmas party fund-raiser, and making plans for the future health of the chapter.
The chapter voted to allow a fund-raising letter to go out to members, something they have never done before.
Chapter Commander Rodney Hunt told members that the TV/internet connection alone was more than $120 a month.
The chapter also bought laptops, toner, and other office equipment with a $2,500 grant from United Way.
But the big push was for volunteers, both Mr. Hunt and member Roger Mello told members that there had been an increase in veterans going to the chapter looking for help applying for benefits. The DAV needs volunteers to help them. The chapter will train volunteers to help fill out forms and be liaisons for veterans.
The chapter meets the first Saturday of the month at 9:45 a.m. at its headquarters, 19 Willis St., New Bedford.
