Turkey Trot Benefits Shepherd’s Food Pantry
This letter of thanks goes out to all who participated in the yearly Thanksgiving morning Turkey Trot. Over 750 registered for this yearly race and over 500 actually ran it that morning.
The conditions were very favorable for the runners and for the volunteers who helped along the route. Most all of the proceeds from this race went to the Shepherd’s Pantry, located at 1215 Main Street. We haven’t got a monetary total so far because we’re still waiting to pay the Fairhaven Police Detail for that morning and also for the race shirts that were purchased for the participants.
A giant amount of gratitude goes out to The Greater New Bedford Track Club, who once again made it their mission to organize, coordinate and manage all of the details pertaining to this yearly venture. And under the leadership of its President, Eric Tavares, everything went smoothly.
After the race was over, they delivered much needed non-perishable food to our pantry that weighed a little over 2,000 lbs. All of the money and food that we received to help out the area’s needy came in just in time. Because the week before we were inundated with a record amount of clients who came looking for help. We ended up handing out 8,760 lbs. of food to help out a total of 704 people served. Also, we gave out countless gift cards to local grocery stores in the area.
If you’d like to help the pantry with its mission, please send your tax-deductible contribution to the Shepherd’s Pantry, P.O. Box 760, Fairhaven, MA 02719. You can also help out by dropping off non-perishable food at the Millicent Library and Stop & Shop Supermarket both located in Fairhaven and the Acushnet Library year round.
