Dear Frankie

October 19, 2022 by Staff Writer

Never the Same

Dear Frankie,

Violette is my twin and best friend. When we were very young, our parents enrolled us in agility classes. From the start, it was clear that Violette would be a star.

Yesterday, after years of practice and more blue ribbons than you can count, Violette left with her coach to go on a national tour. My mom asked if I wanted to go with Violette as her companion, but I said no.

I, along with family and friends, sent her off with great fanfare. They, however, weren’t waving goodbye to their best friend and companion.

I know my life will go on. I also know it will never be the same. I have tried to be a good sport and keep a stiff upper jowl, but whom am I kidding? I’m miserable.

Venezia

Dear Venezia,

Violette has gone away, but she is not gone forever.

Her absence may be a blessing in disguise because it provides you an opportunity to be your own person. It also prepares you for when the two of you most likely will part to pursue different paths — go to college, become a coach in another city, marry, etc.

Twins are known to have a special bond, and that will never change. Violette is still your best friend. I suggest you continue to work on being a good sport, so when you talk to Violette, you can tell her everything you are doing to have fun, besides missing a bunch.

Best, Frankie
