Maureen Savard

Maureen (O’Malley) Savard, 76, of Onset passed away on September 25, 2022 after an extended fight with a complicated illness.

Born on November 22, 1945 in New Bedford, Maureen was a member of the second graduating class of Bishop Stang High School where she was a proud member of the field hockey and cheerleading teams.

Maureen attended Cape Cod Hospital nursing program where she was her class president and earned her LPN. As a nurse, she worked at Lakeville Hospital caring for residential children with severe disabilities. She formally left the nursing profession when she started her own family, which was, arguably, her truest calling.

Maureen’s greatest joy was her family. She married Jerry Savard in 1973 and they celebrated their 49th anniversary in early September of this year. Loving mother to Meaghan Burr (husband Tyler) and Mary Catherine Savard (husband Patrick Doherty), she poured her heart and soul into being a mother, taking on countless volunteer and leadership roles in the schools and their church. Highlights of her volunteering include time spent with the North Middleboro Mother’s Club, as a Brownie Leader, and as a CCD teacher. Later in life, her goal was to be the best grandmother ever, a goal she more than achieved for Brigid, Emmet, Ryan, Nolan, and Maura as their Mimi.

Maureen believed firmly that “the more the merrier” are words to live by and she brought a warmth of energy and love to anyone that she met. She is undoubtedly a light of love as she reunites with Matthew and Mary Catherine O’Malley (her parents), Brian O’Malley (her brother), and several loved ones that have gone before her.

She leaves behind her brother and his wife, Neil and Bonnie O’Malley, her sister-in-law, Judy O’Malley, and many loved nieces and nephews.

If at all possible, please do not wear black to the services, per Maureen’s request. She was a woman of deep and extensive faith and firmly believes that the wake and funeral are a celebration of life. Wear bright, happy colors if you’ve got ‘em.

Visiting hours will be held on Thursday, October 6th from 4-8 PM at the Saunders-Dwyer Mattapoisett Home for Funerals, 50 County Road, Route 6, Mattapoisett. Maureen’s Funeral Mass will be held on Friday, October 7th at 11:00 AM at St. Margaret’s Catholic Church, 141 Main Street, Buzzards Bay. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. https://www.stjude.org. For online condolence book, please visit www.saundersdwyer.com.
