The National Association of Letter Carriers, “Stamp out Hunger” national food drive is again asking people to help with the largest one day food drive in the nation that combats hunger in the U.S.
For the past 23 years, thousands of letter carriers, postal management and other volunteers do their part on this day to provide millions of pounds of food for those in need.
Last year, nationally, 71.5 million pounds of food was collected in this one day food drive. This food eventually went to food banks, pantries and shelters across the country.
In the 41 cities and towns that are within the Southeastern Merged Branch #18 area, over 300,000 pounds of food was picked up by letter carriers and their helpers along their routes.
In Fairhaven alone, 6,084 pounds of food was collected.
Residents are asked to leave non-perishable food items on their porches or near their mailboxes by 8 a.m. on Saturday May 14th. The letter carriers and their helpers will do the rest. Thank you very much in advance.
