Book Group

September 7, 2022 by Staff Writer

In June, 2009, Twenty one year old American, Edwin Rist, studying music at London’s Royal Academy of Music broke into England’s Trig Museum and stole 299 rare preserved tropical bird skins to use their beautiful feathers for his hobby of fly-tying and to sell some skins to buy another flute.

Author Kirk W. Johnson was fly-fishing and his guide told him about Rist’s robbery. This interested him to investigate the case and write a book about it.

“The Feather Thief” by Kirk Wallace Johnson is the selection for September’s discussion at Fairhaven’s Millicent Library, 45 Center Street, Fairhaven, on Thursday, September 15 at 10 a.m. in the library’s meeting room accessible through the Walnut Street entrance.

The discussion is free and open to the public. The book is available at the library or through the library’s website www.millicentlibrary. For more information call Norma Markey at 508-993-3745.
