From Acushnet Fire & EMS Facebook Page
Saturday, 7/30/22, was a very busy day for us! In addition to multiple medical calls in the early part of the day, the Acushnet Fire & EMS Department and Acushnet Permanent FF Association Local 3281 responded to two structure fires. The first was reported at 2:45pm and was an approximately 20×40 abandoned barn that was fully involved in fire, The responding crew made quick work and had the fire under control in about 10 minutes!
Then at 8:09pm, another structure fire call was received for a house in the 300 block of Main Street. Crews arrived on scene to find a large amount fire showing through the roof. The responders were able to gain control of the fire in about 20 minutes, then remained on scene to complete overhaul and ensure that the fire would remain out.
The preliminary cause of both of these fires is improperly discarded smoking materials, and both fires began outside of the structures. Please ensure that all embers, matches or smoking materials are fully entiguished prior to disposal, especially with this dry environment we are dealing with.
Special thank you to Acushnet MA Office of Emergency Management and Acushnet Police Department for all of their assistance throughout these events… As well as Fairhaven Fire-EMS for providing mutual aid for both fires, Mattapoisett Fire Rescue for providing assistance at the second structure fire and Freetown Firefighters IAFF L-3213 for providing medical mutual aid for a separate incident during the barn fire!
