After two years without a Pride event in downtown Boston, a group of grassroots organizers has announced plans for Pop-Up Pride, a day-long event that will include a rally with speakers, music, performers, community tables, food vendors, a family area, a LGBTQ+ youth area, and a quiet reflection area.
In the wake of a dismantled Boston Pride, organizers seek to reclaim a Pride that not only belongs to the community, but serves the entirety of the LGBTQ+ community, especially Greater Boston’s communities of Queer and Trans, Black, Indigenous, people of color (QTBIPOC) who experience intersecting forms of oppression.
On Sun., 6/12, 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., at Boston Common Parade Ground (corner of Beacon St. and Charles St.)
For the past 50+ years, LGBTQ+ people and their allies have gathered in June to celebrate Pride. Pop-Up Pride will offer the community an opportunity to gather and celebrate during this year of rebuilding a more inclusive and responsive Pride organization that serves Greater Boston.
Organizers include a diverse group of community members. The Massa. LGBTQ Chamber of Commerce is serving as fiscal host and will raise funds from foundations and nonprofit organizations to support this event.
Pop-Up Pride is a grassroots, community-organized, community-centered, one-time event.
