Fairhaven’s Huttleston Marketplace opened for its fifth season on Saturday, 5/21/22, with more than 70 booths selling arts, crafts, farm products, collectibles and more.
The weekly market will be held through September 17, on Saturdays from 10-3 (except for 6/25).
Sponsored by the Fairhaven Office of Tourism, the marketplace booths are spread out on the lawn in front of the Visitors Center and on the lawn of Fairhaven High School, on the corner of Main Street and Huttleston Avenue (Rte. 6).
This past Saturday, the Lions Club sold hot dogs and burgers; Dorothy Cox had ice cream and taffy, Sorbae had frozen treats, and many booths had packaged baked goods and other goodies.
But the big draw is the hand-crafted nature of most items. no large scale commercially produced products are accepted. The marketplace is meant to be a place for artists to sell their hand made items, vintage items, photography, artwork, books, etc.
Jackie from Hermit Crab Crafts said the attendance was pretty good on Saturday morning. She decorates shells and other sea products, using shells her husband, a scalloper, gets for her.
“And we comb the beaches,” she said.
She likes the marketplace she said, and plans to be there every week.
Monica from Sorbae, was selling a variety of frozen treats. Her company is new, out of New Bedford, she said, and this was her first fair.
She said she was doing well with sales, but had a few changes she would make next week with her setup.
“So far, we sold a pretty good amount,” she said at about noon time.
