Y’know, I wasn’t even going to watch it. It’s routine, I thought. They vote on Town Meeting articles. They recommend some, they don’t recommend others. But, they don’t REMOVE the ones they don’t like that come from other boards. That….like…doesn’t happen. Until now.
First problem, they try to stop Mr. Foley from explaining the whole bylaw saying they all read it. Well, yeah, YOU read it, not us. But, hey, we’re just the voters, it’s just our money. We don’t need to understand what you’re talking about, right?
This foolishness all happened around the shade tree bylaw proposed by the Planning Board, which somehow ended up with the Select Board’s name as the petitioner. Huh?
Everyone knows it was PB working on this for months. Ever since tree-lover Collasius cut down 62 (or was it 63?) trees without a single public hearing. Remember how proud he was of himself? (See 9/16/21 issue.)
Newly minted Leon Correy says it’s a “snap reaction” to something that happened that people didn’t like. Well, yeah. That’s not a reason not to fix it, just because it only happened once? Once is one time too many. You’ve just given Mr. Chainsaw the whole season to cut down the rest of our shade trees.
He took down 62 trees. SIXTY TWO. If you don’t fix it, it could happen again. It could happen again. Just because it only happened once, you think it’s okay to leave in place the conditions that allowed it to happen? He took down 62 trees with NO PUBLIC HEARINGS. NOT ONE.
Meanwhile, Stasia Powers still has not disclosed her close relationship with Mr. Collasius and his wife. They are best buddies. People have a right to know if you can be objective when you are dealing with someone you socialize with on a regular basis. No, I didn’t call the state ethics commission. I don’t need to. I don’t care what they say. This is common sense. You all talk about transparency, then you try to shut people down and you don’t tell us pertinent information. Be honest, Ms. Powers. Can you be objective in this case? If so, tell us. We have a right to know. But, hey, you’re blindly supporting a guy who clearly does not believe in the democratic process. Hearings? Nah, too much trouble. Nobody goes anyway.
Shame on all of you. To dismiss the work the PB did is a slap in the face to them. Let Town Meeting decide. THAT is the democratic thing to do.
But I guess we don’t do that anymore in Fairhaven. Oh, and while I’m on the subject. We didn’t change to a five member board so you’d be free to make back room deals. That was not what we wanted. Stop it. Just because you can talk one-on-one, does not mean you should be making deals. We have a right to know the thought process behind this stuff, so we don’t think that maybe it’s just because you’re friends with someone.
