Thank you from the food pantry
This letter of thanks goes out to all of the generous Fairhaven residents, who contributed non-perishable food to the 30th annual U.S. Postal food drive called “Stamp Out Hunger.” On Saturday May 14th, the hard working letter carriers did double duty by delivering the mail and picking up all of the food left by their postal patrons’ mailboxes.
All of the food went to the Shepherd’s Pantry, located at 1215 Main Street, Acushnet.
According to Lou Braga, the pantry’s Administrator, this food drive was essential in keeping our doors open. Reason being, the Greater Boston Food Bank (GBFB), our main supplier of non-perishable food, has been hard pressed in meeting the area’s demands.
Another huge thank you, for its success, goes out to all our exceptional volunteers who came out to help at the postal annex, located on Pequod road in Fairhaven, and at the pantry to unload all of the food at the end of the day. Also to The Standard-Times and The Fairhaven Neighborhood News who published my letter reminding folks of this important yearly endeavor. And especially to Beth David, The FNN publisher and editor, for showing interest by always coming out and taking pictures of our event.
I also need to mention Steve Xavier, from Skip’s Marine, for donating their truck, each month, to pick up our delivery of food from GBFB and delivering it to our pantry.
Also, during the year, you can always donate non-perishable food at the Millicent Library and Stop & Shop Supermarket, both located in Fairhaven, and the at Acushnet Library.
And finally, to see all of the kindness of people’s generosity that day, by either donating food or volunteering, or both, makes me realize, once again, that this is what life is all about. If you need to utilize the services of the pantry, come by on Saturdays between the hours of 9 and 11 a.m. You can also call for information at 508-763-9289.
